Renault R4 and the 2nd R5 I’ve spotted.

Peugeot 104 parked on the same street.

Interesting facade.

I don’t know if XJ Cherokees are rare or not in France but here’s one.

Not many boxy Volvos here, it seems. Here are two of them.

Hey, out of curiosity are you guys doing a bunch of 205 wrist pins? My foreman and SM went through the whole fleet to see which ones needed to be addressed, we’ve probably done at least 20 combined so far and are assuring parts on maybe that many more. I’ve heard some dealers haven’t done any yet.

My manager was saying something about parts being allocated in our recall/bulletin section for W205. I thought it was something electrical. Is there a thing about those knocking? Our W205 loaners are still being given out. I’m positive we haven’t done any but i’ll ask the foreman to see if we are supposed to start ordering parts for those. If so, they probably need to be pre approved per the VIN like always at first by Mercedes. Later though, the parts will be available in the warehouse

Not sure how it works in the parts side, but there is an LI for it so it should be easy enough assuming parts are available. The problem is that the M274’s are rattling/knocking during deceleration when cold, about 2,000rpm down to about 1,000rpm due to excessive play in the wrist pins. It seems to be a good job after you do your first one. If you search engine noise in tips it should pop right up. Every single car in the VIN range we’ve encountered needed pistons and rods replaced.

Well, 2 Merc Techs talking about the shortcomings of the brand. Interesting. My only question is how do you screw up honing a bushing for a wrist pin?

Or are they pre-sized so they are simply inserted in the rod and assumed to be good? In that case, why did they not do any spot checks? Many questions.

It was an issue of the parts supplier screwing up (sort of like Takata). And it’s only a certain VIN range on one engine. They don’t do it brand new, it manifests after a few thousand miles. AFAIK, Mercedes is making the replacement parts themselves, but I could be wrong. No bushing for the pin in the piston, just the rod IIRC.

It’s an issue that would have been nearly impossible to detect in QC, the noise only lasts for a couple minutes below a certain temperature and is usually quiet enough that you can’t hear it in the car. The fact that the noise isn’t present when new indicates its a wear-in issue, making it harder still. So, great job parts supplier.

It’s like Lexus all over again. We were doing piston rings left and right. Like you said, once you do one, they are cake! Easy hours. Parts will probably be sent out to us soon. After a little bit, the cars ordered from the port will have the update. They only send us enough to do our inventory and sales. It shouldn’t take long for the parts to be available at the warehouse. Right now it’s in that odd limbo stage before it’s official recall/TB. As of now, we haven’t seen any of them.

We had a deal at Aston were the new Rapide V12’s had CEL’s on one bank. Astons treat their V12 by halves (2 ecm, 2 “CELs”) Turns out, their engine speed senors were the culprit due to bad machining on the engine block. Little things like wrist pins or tiny VVT oil drain ports sometimes are not sufficient away from initial testing. Sucks that it’s an engine bottom end thing but it does happen.

I would imagine replacing rods and/or wrist pins can be major surgery. At least they are new and easier to work on.

We did piston rings on Lexus from 10-12ish. We had the whole shop full of cars with engines torn completely down. No biggie tho after you do a couple.
